Places to Eat & Drink
Hogan Brother’s. Soup, sandwiches, and secret sauce. Our favorite lunch spot in Northfield.
Red Barn Farm. Wood-fired pizza every Wednesday night during the summer at a bucolic farm just outside of Northfield.
The Contented Cow. The local watering hole with live music most weekend evenings.
The Kenwood. A block off Lake of the Isles. Hannah & Lars' favorite weekend brunch spot.
Tilia. A cozy neighborhood restaurant with a great beer list. Our favorite dinner locale.
Butcher & the Boar. Rustic, responsible meat with a great outdoor patio and beer garden.
The Blue Door Pub. Best veggie burgers in town or go for the Twin Cities classic, the Juicy Lucy.
Lucia’s To Go. Right around the corner from our apartment. Our go-to for a quick lunch or coffee.
Isles Bun & Coffee. One of our weekend staples, and a perfect stop before a walk around the lakes. Try the divine individual cinnamon rolls known as 'puppy dog tails.'
Birchwood Cafe. Right off the Greenway, this organic local café is a Seward neighborhood gem.
World Street Kitchen. Food truck turned restaurant, which dishes up delicious fusion street food.
Spyhouse. Lars' favorite coffee shop (in terms of vibe) with multiple locations throughout the cities.
Psycho Suzi’s. A fun, tiki-themed patio overlooking the Mississippi River.
Surly Brewery. Opened by grads of Hannah and Lars' alma mater, this brewery has become a national destination, with a great outdoor space and a chef stolen from a tapas restaurant.
Tattersall. If cocktails are more your thing, try this swanky new distillery. Don't be thrown off by the winding alley-esque road you need to take to get there.
Things to Do
Nice Ride Bikes and Boat Rentals. In the land of 10,000 lakes we'd be remiss if we didn't suggest you walk, bike, or boat around the chain of lakes. You can rent bikes, kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards by the hour.
Outdoor Music & Movies. Free outdoor music & movies sponsored by the parks department almost every summer evening.
The Midtown Greenway. With Minneapolis competing for the most bike-friendly city in the nation, the Midtown Greenway is the local bike commuting highway.
Feeling more outdoorsy and adventurous? Venture to the North shore along Lake Superior. Stay at Lutsen or Bluefin Bay. Or head to the BWCA for backpacking, canoeing, and camping.
